A nearly two million dollar golden Christmas tree goes on display in Tokyo for the Christmas holiday season.

Tokyo's jewellery store Ginza Tanaka unveiled its 2.4 meters tall Golden Christmas Tree, which is made from 12 kilograms of pure gold, worth 1.95 million US dollars. It took 15 craftsmen four and a half months to complete the creation. Uncertainties in the global economy pushed gold prices to record highs in August.

It has been adorned with gold plates and 60 heart-shaped ornaments and 100 ribbons made of pure gold. The tree will be on display at the store from 22 November to 25 December. Last year, Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi unveiled a Christmas tree worth $11 million. The value of the tree came from the jewellery that adorned it including necklaces and earrings that had precious stones like diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds
